The series The monsterbased on Ingrid Falaise's autobiographical story, got its international career off to a good start, earning a place on the list of most promising dramas at Cannes MIPTV.

The announcement was made on Wednesday at the Palais des Festivals by Virginia Mouseler, president of The Wit consultancy. Entitled Monster in English, the six-episode drama presented on ICI Tou.tv Extra since February tells the story of Sophie (Rose-Marie Perreault), a young woman of 18 who falls in love with a man (Mehdi Meskar) who turns out to be a merciless torturer.

 

"It's a series from the #moiaussi movement in which the woman is abused, but eventually takes her power back," said Mouseler.

Contacted by telephone from Paris, Nicola Merola, President of Pixcom, the production company behind The monsterspoke of a good boost to sales The monster outside Quebec. Over the past few days, Mr. Merola has seen how the series has touched people of all nationalities.

"We showed our three-minute trailer and many people needed a good 30 seconds to recover. They were unable to speak immediately afterwards, so moved were they."

The monster is part of a selection made up of several dramas revolving around female characters in crisis, a strong trend in 2019, The Wit found. The Quebec series rubs shoulders with Honoura Swedish drama that portrays four lawyer friends who witnessed a sex crime 20 years earlier.

We also note Bad Mothersan Australian series described as a cross between Desperate beauties (Desperate Housewives) and Little big lies (Big Little Lies) by Jean-Marc Vallée. The Wit agency selected Cheat in the United Kingdom and Dangerous Mums in Spain.
